Derived from the French words "lamina" for layering and "montage" for image. The ancient art of felting in combination with the latest in technology is employed in making these hand made art forms for the floor. Hundreds of colors in the form of webbing are layered to get the desired effect for a particular design. The material can be shredded, overlapped, piped and built up to elicit an image. The fabric is then tacked down with a hand held tool that houses hundreds of barbed needles which moves at a high speed to interlock the fibers. The effect of this meshing ranges from the look of short, swift brush strokes to a classical blending of color shades. Once the artist is satisfied with the work, machinery permanently laminates the rug, creating an extremely durable product suitable for use in a variety of spaces.
